Barbara Coloroso is an international bestselling author and for the past 45 years an internationally recognized speaker and consultant on parenting, teaching, school discipline, positive school climate, bullying, grieving, nonviolent conflict resolution and restorative justice.

She has appeared on Oprah, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and NPR and has been featured in the New York Times, Time, U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek, and other national and international publications.

Her uniquely effective parenting and teaching strategies were developed through her years of training in sociology, special education, and philosophy, as well as field-tested through her experiences as a classroom teacher, laboratory school instructor, university instructor, seminar leader, volunteer in Rwanda, and mother of three grown children.

Jennifer is a Family Therapist and the founder of Connected Parenting, which provides unique, groundbreaking, and practical advice to parents. She is the author of two books, Connected Parenting - How to Raise a Great Kid! and You Are Ruining My Life- But Not Really, through Penguin Books.  They are available in the U.S. and Canada, in bookstores and online. Her unique parenting model teaches parents how to use empathy in perfect balance with limit setting to help children become resilient, emotionally organized, and ready to handle the inevitable adversity life can throw at them.  Based on the CALM technique, Connected Parenting is a powerful parenting model based on the Neuroscience of love. Dr. Kristen Buhr

Dr. Kristen Buhr

Dr. Kristin Buhr is a Registered Psychologist and Director at the North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic (www.nssac.ca).  She specializes in the assessment and treatment of stress-related problems, anxiety disorders, and mood difficulties in adolescents and adults. She is certified in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) by the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (CACBT-ACTCC).  Dr. Buhr is also a lead consultant for AnxietyBC.  She has developed website content aimed at helping adults, parents, children, and youth cope with anxiety problems (www.anxietybc.com).  In addition, she has been involved in the production of educational videos (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: A parent’s guide to helping your anxious child; Effectively Managing Panic Disorder; and Separation Anxiety Disorder: A Parent’s guide to helping your child).  She was also a lead contributor to the development of a mobile app aimed at helping youth and young adults manage anxiety and challenging situations (MindShift). Dr. Buhr also provides educational lectures and workshops on anxiety to youth, parents, educators, and mental health professionals. 

Gerald Fussell

Gerald W. Fussell, B.A., B. Ed., M. Ed., has a Masters Degree from the University of Victoria in Curriculum Leadership.  Gerald has chaired the 21st Century Leadership Committee in his school district for the past 7 years and has successfully lead initiatives to improve assessment practices, collaboration, communication skills, creative thinking, critical thinking, gifted education, literacy, numeracy, and resilience.  He has also been involved with Destination Imagination for the past 7 years.  He started his district’s initial team, Cannon Fodder, and led the development of the program so that this year more than 1,000 students were involved in DI district wide.  Destination Imagination is seen as a key catalyst in the district for changing educational practices.   In addition to improving participation rates, teams from the Comox Valley have successfully participated at Global Finals with 17 top 20 finishes at the Secondary Level in the past 6 years[1]; as well as, second, third, and fourth place finishes when representing Canada at the last two Beijing Invitational Tournaments.  Presently, Gerald serves as the President of the DI Board of Directors in British Columbia, Canada, and is the Principal of Lake Trail Middle School in the Comox Valley.

Jennifer Gibson MA, the Coordinator of Community Education Services with ISHS, is a professional sexual health educator whose knowledge, sense of humour, enthusiasm, and comfort level give her the unique ability to make sexual health education accessible and easy to relate to.

Most often referred to as “The Sex Lady” by youth participants, Jennifer believes in making sexual health education relevant, accessible, and fun for all participants. She also believes that effective sexual health education combines factual information with humour and pop culture. Jennifer is passionate about creating space for every person to become comfortable with and knowledgeable about sexual health. These principles form the foundation for all of her workshops.

Katherine Paxton

Katherine Paxton

Katherine Paxton is a Canadian Certified Counsellor in Victoria and Duncan who has been in private practice for over ten years. Her speciality is working with children, youth, and adults who are on the autism spectrum, have a developmental disability, or their families. Katherine works from a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy perspective. Within this framework she has focussed on helping people learn to self-regulate, including working through anxieties and depression. Katherine has written an award-winning book, "Counselling People on the Autism Spectrum: A Practical Manual".
